President's Letter

Ky School Counselors,

It is my honor and privilege to serve as the 2025-2026 president of the Kentucky School Counselor Association.

When I began my counseling career in 2006 in rural Mercer County, I remember admiring the incredible leaders of KSCA and their tireless commitment to our life-changing work in KY schools. I never dreamed that someone like me could hold such a prestigious position but now that this has become a reality, I am committed to standing up, speaking up and showing up for YOU, the over 2,000 school counselors in our wonderful state in any way I can.

Our member’s matter and we as a KSCA board are here to serve you. Our recent survey highlighted several key areas where our focus will lie during this year.

1.  Increasing public perception of the work of school counselors.  KSCA alongside our lobbying firm Piper-Smith is already speaking up on your behalf in Frankfort and beyond to advocate for additional school counselors, lower student to counselor ratios and fewer non-counseling duties.

2.Providing high quality practical and FREE resources to our members.  KSCA will prioritize the offering of professional development and other opportunities to equip our members with cutting edge research based strategies and approaches.

3.Addition of networking and regional engagement activities.  We heard you! KSCA will have an increased focus on regional engagement which will allow school counselors from all parts of the state and from all cultural, demographic and geographic backgrounds to feel valued and supported in our organization.

These are lofty goals but as your president, these goals will be my mission. Please reach out to me at any time with your concerns or if you simply need a listening ear.  I’m in the trenches with you every day at Robert B. Turner Elementary and I’d love to hear from you!

As you may have seen, our theme for the year is Lights, Camera, Advocacy!  Stand Up! Speak Up! Show Up!  As your KSCA board these are more than just words but are our promise to you.  As your elected voice, we will stand up, speak up and show up for you when you need us most.

Together both now and beyond, Kentucky school counselors are changing the world, one child at a time.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this opportunity to serve.

Amy D. Riley

KSCA President
2025-2026
